On September 15, 2017, the space probe Cassini made its final historic descent to a fiery in Saturn's atmosphere after a remarkably successful 19-year journey made up of four separate missions.
After a near 7-year journey from Earth, Cassini established itself in orbit around Saturn in 2004. Over the next 10 years, Cassini sent over 500 gigabytes of data back to Earth, enabling publication of over 3,000 scientific papers. Over the years, it made more than 200 orbits around Saturn, performed an amazing 132 close fly-bys of Saturn's moons and discovered seven previously unknown Saturn moons.
