Yesterday Gord Downie was honoured with an eagle feather and the spirit name, "Man Who Walks Among the Stars" at a national Assembly of First Nations meeting in Canada.
There is hardly a person in the country who is not intimately familiar with the story of the Tragically Hip lead singer who announced in May he had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.
The band organized a quick Canadian summer tour ending with the epic Aug 20 concert, watched by millions and attended by the Prime Minister, in Downie's hometown, Kingston.
Downie used the unique opportunity to speak on behalf of First Nations peoples, directly asking the Prime Minister to make things right. He has already established himself as a defender of First Nations through the poetry in some of his songs.
The video of yesterday's ceremony includes another 6-minute video showing Downie's recent visit to a northern community with close ties to his lyrics.
